Q. Where can I stay in Tzfat?
A. There are a wide variety of accommodation options in Safed including luxury accommodations, moderately-priced accommodations, many different types of kosher Bed and Breakfasts and hostels.

Q. Can you visit Tzfat on Shabbat? What stays open?
A. All are welcome for a Shabbat visit!  The galleries/shops/supermarkets are closed.  Join a Shabbat Experience!  Alternately, make arrangements for your Shabbat meals ahead of time.  Check out the Tzfat hosting whatsapp group (for English speakers) to connect with potential hosts -- there are many people who are looking for guests to join them for Shabbat meals! 

Q. Do you need to be religious to enjoy visiting Safed?
A.
Not at all. Tzfat is meaningful for the Jewish people as a spiritual and historical site but everyone can enjoy the beautiful synagogue architecture, the special Tsfat art, the mystical stories and the unique culture of the town. 


Q. What's the best way to tour Tzfat? 
A. There are a number of options for touring Tzfat. 
  • Hire a tour guide for a guided tour of Tzfat
  • Walk around the city with the self-guided tours of Tzfat on your smartphone to learn about the city's religious and historical sites.

Q. What is there to do in Tzfat? 
A. There are a number of Tzfat experiences  including visits to historical sites, workshops, visits to galleries and evening activities. Some of these are one-time events and others run throughout the year.   Check out

A.
Yes!  There are even photo workshops that focus specifically on Tzfat photography! 


Q. How can you get to Safed?
A. If you have a car you can enter Safed from Route 89 or Route 90.
If you're traveling by bus, you can take a direct bus from Jerusalem (982) which runs several times each day, or from the airport, Tel Aviv or Haifa, by train to Acco and then bus 361 to Safed (runs every 1/2 hour until approximately 9:00p.m.) Other transportation information can be found here. 


Q. Is Tzfat stroller-friendly or wheelchair accessible?
A. Not really. There are places that you can access but to get around, for the most part, you need to navigate stairs. 

Q. What is the dress code for visiting synagogues in Tzfat?
A. There is no dress code. The synagogues are open to all. The Old Jewish Quarter is populated by Orthodox Jews so you might feel more comfortable if you cover your arms and legs to better blend in with the populace.
